We’d like to let you know about our up-coming concert in London’s newest concert venue – KINGS PLACE NEXT WEEK on October 27, Hall Two, at 19:30.  Our concert is part of the IGF London Guitar Festival in the Fall . For information and box office details please go to www.kingsplace.co.uk

NEW MULTI MEDIA CD – ‘MUSIC FOR AN ISLAND’ BGS117

Our latest CD ‘Music for an Island’ BGS117 has recently been released and has a programme of music inspired by landscapes from the British  Isles.  The CD has a 10 min QuickTime movie which can be played on any computer, giving a snapshot of the images which accompany the music in the live multimedia performance.  ‘Music for an Island’ is available from HMV, Guitar CD’s Ltd, and is distributed by RSK Entertainment.

To hear some mp3 sound samples from the new CD go to Latest Recording blog.

FUTURE CONCERTS AND NEW WORKS

2009 is an important year for us as we celebrate 20 years as a duo and we’re looking forward to marking the occasion with special concerts at the Wigmore Hall, London, and St George’s Bristol, where we’ll be performing a couple of new works that have been written for us by Gary Ryan and Johannes Möller.

Early next year Classical Guitar Magazine will be doing a cover feature on us to coincide with our anniversary and we will also be touring the USA and Canada in February, making our New York debut for the NYCCGS with other appearances in Toronto and Ottawa at the Alla Grande Festival.

We are also performing in Germany, as part of the Internationales Paderborner Gitarrenfestival in November, and the 9. Gutarrenfestival Gevelsberg in April 4-10 2009.

We‘ll return Stateside in June when we’re honoured to be performing at the 2009 GFA Convention in Ithaca, New York.

THEME AND VARIATIONS – GILL ROBINSON

On a completely different note we have recently been the perhaps rather unlikely subjects for a series of works by the artist Gill Robinson entitled Theme and Variations which was exhibited at West Dean during the Guitar Festival in August.  We have been staggered by the amazing variety and depth in the paintings and we are currently looking for venues where we can combine a concert with an exhibition of Gill’s works – please get in touch if you have any suggestions. Catch some of Gill work and her ideas behind the project on our blog Theme and Variations.

VIDA GUITAR QUARTET

Over the past year we have been busy creating a new ensemble – the Vida Guitar Quartet – with Helen Sanderson and Mark Ashford.  It has been the most tremendous fun working together and we’ll make our recording debut with a CD of Spanish works featuring Manuel de Falla‘s ‘El Amor Brujo’ and ‘El Sombrero de Tres Picos’, Bizet’s ‘Carmen Suite’, and Turina’s ‘La Oración del Torero’. Keep an eye on the website for the release date and if you want to catch us in concert then Vida GQ will be performing as part of IGF events in London, and Bath, Dillington Guitar Festival, the World Youth Guitar Festival (WYGF09), and the Festival Internacional de Guitarra do Algarve in Portugal, plus more.  Info at www.vidagq.com

  1. Hey Guys, love the new website!
Very Moodeern and snazzy, not to mention educational, witty and entertaining. I would like to add one suggestion however…..guitar jokes page?? you know you want to.

I very much liked the recipe for a concert page, and am planning to perform a few choice miss-timed solo notes of my own in the upcoming Sydney Classical Guitar Society Summer School. I will be practicing all ten notes of my repertoire very hard until you come back to Australia to perfect them.

Wishing you and your families a very merry christmas and a happy new year,

    Regards,
    Paloma van Zyl

  2. Hi Paloma
Glad you like the new site (and Chris’ recipe) but I don’t think our jokes aren’t good enough to have their own blog. Hope the Summer School goes well – hope we’re over again soon.
    Best wishes
    Mark
